Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an office of the Department of Defense, recently awarded Judy Fleming, patient care manager at Carolina Eye Associates with the Patriot Award. Fleming was presented the award on behalf of Carolina Eye Associates in recognition of their extraordinary support of Staff Sergeant Lori Mosgrove, a member of the NC Army National Guard. Created by ESGR, the Patriot Award recognizes individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support to employees who have answered their nation’s call to duty. Fleming was nominated by Mosgrove for encouraging her effort to serve her country. Fleming and Carolina Eye have accommodated Mosgrove’s dual career as an employee and citizen-soldier.
Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units. ESGR seeks to foster a culture in which employers, like Carolina Eye Associates, support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR recognizes employer support through local, state and national awards based solely on the nomination of their Service Member. Paramount to ESGR’s mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce. Carolina Eye Associates, through their policies and employees, exemplifies the partnership needed between the employer and citizen-soldier.
